A while back I caught an episode of Samantha Who?. In it the character played by Jennifer Esposito, the show hottie, turns out to be completely "unphotogenic". They show her posing and looking gorgeous, but the image the camera catches is just horrible contorted facial expressions. When I was taking the holiday card photos, I was having vivid flashbacks to that episode. Rylee would look so cute and then snap - monster face!
It doesn't help that my digital camera is frustratingly slow from click to capture. It also doesn't help that it is set to red eye reduction and I can't figure out how to get it turned off. Stupid slow! Worse yet, it's never once reduced red eye! Everyone comes out devil-eyed anyway and I have to fix them on my photo program.
So basically you have to be a psychic photographer and anticipate the expression or pose you're going for a full 5 seconds before it happens. Turns out I'm not even the littlest bit psychic. Which is why I had hundreds of photos to delete (thank God for digital in that respect) and the blooper reel to my left.
[Just to show how dependent I am on my digital, I have to interject this one little story. The other day the display on my digital camera went out. All I could see was black. I was complaining about it because I wanted to take a picture of whatever Rylee was doing. First, my mom had to remind me that you
can take pictures with the little eye peephole. Second, I could barely get my eye in the right spot and then I couldn't decide which eye to use and which eye to close (another flashback: I had the same issue during my 6th grade gun license/ target test - which I think was a required course... good old MN raising the next generation of deer hunters, you betcha!). Third, it was so weird not being able to tell what image I caught. I was just clicking away not sure what in the heck I was doing - so primitive. Fourth, every picture turned out blurry and partially out of frame. Thankfully Jon later fixed the problem by pushing the button DISP... I can be amazingly tech-challenged at times.]
Back to my fave bloopers:
The first photo is my favorite. I call it the "back off, paparazzi" photo.
Next I like the ones with all the tissue paper. She had spit up a little on her dress so we were using the tissue paper to strategically cover the wet stains. She had so much fun thrashing around in it. Cute in person, but on film she kind of looks like a drunk leprechaun. Especially funny is the one where it looks like she's rolled out of the box and landed on her face. Don't worry, no children or animals were harmed during photography. She was actually on her side, it's just a weird camera angle.
Then I like the one where both Rylee and Rio appear completely disinterested (maybe
appear isn't the correct word - they were disinterested!) and are looking away from each other with the lone silver ball between them. Don't ask me why, but it cracks me up.
Then of course you have the screaming photos - of which these are the only two, honest. No children or animals were forced to pose for longer than enjoyable.
Lastly, I like the ones were you can see my assistant bribing (I said they weren't
forced, I didn't say they weren't bribed) the dogs with cheese.
That's all for the blooper reel. I have some more evidence of Rylee's "unphotogenicness" but I'll save that for another day. :)
