Another productive day today, but it wasn't as much fun (called doctor, called State Farm, paid the bills, finished April lesson plans, graded 3 chapters worth of math tests, filled out my report cards, did the dishes and the laundry - I think that was about it).
I did accomplish most everything I wanted to so now I have the next couple of days for fun. Yeah! Tomorrow I'm heading out for breakfast with friends. I can smell and taste it already. I love breakfast! I like breakfast for dinner also, but Jon is not a fan of that. :(
Anyway, not much to say other than all is well with my thyroid. My T3 and T4 numbers are still within range and my TSH dropped from 28 to 8 (should be in the range of 0 to 5) so that is much closer. My doctor just wanted to speak with me personally and outline our plan for the next month. I love him! I am so lucky to have him as my general practitioner. I wish he delivered - he would be a much better ob/gyn than the one I currently have!

Productive Sunday
Some days just feel longer than others. Today was one of those days (in a good way).
First, I slept in until 8:30... ahhh!
Then Jon made us breakfast burritos. (Whenever you say "breakfast burritos," you must use your funniest Taco Bell chihuahua dog accent - it's a rule.)
We ran to Home Depot to get paint samples for Jon's new man room.
When we got back, I put on my bikini and laid by the pool and read. I didn't even look too scary (very white, but not scary.)
The rain decided to visit so Jon and I got working on the room reassignment upstairs. First, I moved everything from my exercise room closet (or the orange room as we all affectionately refer to it due to its Indian colors of orange and pink) to the guest room closet.
Then Jon helped to move everything from his man room closet to the orange room closet.
Last, we emptied the furniture from the orange room so that it is ready for Jon to paint this week. He's going to go with tan and chocolate walls (bye bye orange!... only I loved you... you will be missed).
Through all this, Jon managed to smoke a delicious turkey. Add in the mashed potatoes, corn and salad - it was like Thanksgiving!
I've finished washing the dishes, cleaning the kitchen, blogging (almost anyway) and it's still only 7:45!
Better yet, there's no getting up for work tomorrow at 5:15. Yippee!!

SPRING BREAK!
It's official -Spring Break is finally here! Thank God!
I have a busy week ahead (lesson planning, grading, report cards, closet cleaning, a breakfast date, and two lunch dates), but I still plan to relax (a little!).
I'm kicking off my week of fun by attending Erin's baby shower this afternoon. I can't wait to see all the great gifts she's going to get. It will be like a product demonstration (which I could use prior to my own registering)!
Nothing else new to report other than my doctor called and left me a message to call him back about my thyroid. I'm assuming he didn't like my test results this week. And my cough is getting worse day by day (especially when I laugh), joy!
And I had a bit of a hormonal meltdown yesterday over our ice maker. It would only dispense crushed ice (regardless of the cube or crush button) and it was really teeing me off. I'm feeling much more "normal" today... I hope...
I'll stick to bottled water just in case. :)

16 weeks
This weekend marks my sixteenth week of pregnancy so I thought you all deserved a few updates.
I've gained about nine pounds (I had been holding at 8 for weeks, but the overeating I did on Easter has pushed me up some). The belly is definitely protruding. Here are some pics for those visual people out there.

We also finally made some big baby purchases. Jon and I met at Baby Luv tonight and placed our order for the crib and dresser. I love them! They are a dark espresso, very modern with silver knobs. The design is called Ocean (very fitting for Jon).

The chair is sort of ugly. Jon keeps teasing me that it is a "Grandma chair," but it is sooooo comfortable. We went with the espresso colored wood and a medium brown microfiber-ish fabric. I could only find a picture in blue so disregard the color.

Okay, I know - it doesn't look very modern, but I think I can make it work. It was the price and the comfort that sold me. In 6 to 12 weeks when everything actually arrives, I guess we'll see. :)
The rest of my ideas for the nursery are hard to explain. I am going "themeless" with modern Michael Miller fabrics in blues, greens, browns etc. When we find out the sex of the baby (hopefully on April 26th) then I'll officially finalize my fabrics. There are some really adorable prints for girls (keep your fingers crossed!).

Pickle Juice
So I really have been craving pickles during my pregnancy. I think this makes my mom happy since she craved pickles and ice cream. Can't say that I've been craving them with ice cream (sounds completely gross to me), but I have been craving ice cream separately. (Come to think of it, I always crave ice cream. Can't really blame the baby for that one.)
Anyway, I am very weird about pickles. They have to be the baby size (they're crunchier). They have to be spicy (not plain). They have to be whole (no circles or spears please!)
It's actually hard to find spicy baby dills down here and in my shopping recently, I goofed my buying up twice. First, I accidentally bought the plain kind. (I could have sworn that hot and spicy rancher was on the label but he had apparently been bucked off by the time I got home). Then, I accidentally bought the fire starter hot.
Since I didn't want two jars of pickles to go to waste, I did a little pickle juice swap (thanks for the suggestion, Mom). The plain ones are now spicy (I am munching on one of those now), but the others are still too hot for my enjoyment. Thankfully, I've tasked Jon with eating those up.
Glad I tried the swap... otherwise I would have been in a real pickle! :)

What a Difference a Day Makes
Yesterday was such a blissfully happy and relaxing day.
Today, not so much...
After another night of insomnia, I opted a frustrated glance at the clock and discovered it was minutes before my alarm rang. This annoys me to no end - I sometimes refrain from checking the clock at night just due to this possibility - so I started my day a wee bit on the crabby side. Add to that the return of my constipation, an unsightly acne outbreak, and a ridiculously aching back and neck. I am loving pregnancy, and the world in general, today. :)
So though I have requests for more details about the nursery, I think I will save them for later in the week when my mood is more favorable!
Don't check back for a day or so, tomorrow night is my book club and Wednesday is baby furniture bankruptcy night. Just kidding, I think we did a great job of finding stuff we liked that won't break the bank (plus there are rumors that both sets of grandparents will be contributing to crib and chair purchases - THANK YOU!).
Later gators!

Happy Easter!
Things I'm thankful for this Easter (yeah, I know...it sound like Thanksgiving... whatever!)
- Jon is back from the Bahamas, yeah!
- Yesterday was Wicked awesome! Hanging out with Jess was a blast and the show was amazing (even better than I remembered). Bonus: Anthony was kind enough to pick us girls up so we didn't have to get drenched in the torrential downpour.
- There's only one more week until Spring Break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I didn't have to cook for Easter. Thanks Venessa!
- MBP is brewing nicely. :)
- Jon and I have finally decided on a nursery room plan and are going to order the furniture this week.
Love to you all!

Vacation
"I've had just about as much vacation as I can stand!"
Okay so technically I haven't been on vacation, but when Jon is away it feels like a mini-vacation. (No offense, hun.) For this trip though, I have been running here and there... I've hardly been home... I've hardly slept - I'm exhausted!
Sunday: I was up at 4:30 am to get Jon off to the airport and then Mom and I went to Ikea and then on another errand that turned into one of those wild goose chases, took us 1 1/2 away, and shot the greater part of the day and night. No relaxation there...
Monday: I was sick so I don't remember much about Monday.
Tuesday: You already know I hit the $1 movie and had a blast, but again it was a late night.
Wednesday: School to ob appointment to Girl Scout Awards banquet - this meant I left my house before 7 am and didn't return until 10 pm. Loooooong day!
Pregnancy notes:
- The baby is good, heartbeat 150s, and we should be finding out the sex on April 26(that is if MBP will cooperate)!
- I'm reading the funniest book of essays called "Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay: And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom."
- People say the strangest things to you when you are pregnant. For instance, one person told me I'm "starting to look pregnant from the back." I'm not sure what that means but it doesn't sound the most flattering. Just to set the record straight, I am still fitting into all my old skinny jeans and shorts - most I can even still button (though sometimes I don't just because I don't like the feel on my tummy). Another person said she doesn't watch my tummy growth, she watches my boob growth. Again, I understand her point, but awww-kward!
Thursday: Bumming with Mom, but I did manage to get home and get into bed by 10:00.
Friday: No school! Glorious! Slept in till 8:00 am - thank you Rio! (As an aside: Someone told me I was "glowing" on Thursday and attributed it to the pregnancy - only I knew it was really in anticipation of the 3 day weekend!) Mom and I hit another movie at my new favorite theater (there are no teenagers hanging out and smoking there!). Only $3 today and not nearly as insane as it was on Tuesday. We saw Definitely, Maybe. I crush on Ryan Reynolds. :)
Tomorrow: Jon returns home and the ladies step out on the town to see Wicked.
Happy Easter everybody!

Expectations
In life you go into a situation with certain expectations and most of the time, your expectations are right. Well tonight, I was actually shocked by something, so even though I am exhausted and wishing I was snuggled under the covers right now, I have to take the time to blog!
My mom, Karen and I decide to try the dollar movie theater for the 4:00 showing of 27Dresses. We got there a little before 4:00, anticipating being one of ten people in the show. Boy, were we wrong. There were two lines, each one over 50 feet long, stretching out in opposite directions in front of the theater - senior citizens galore! We should have known!
The show was packed, but luckily we got tickets and seats together. The movie theater is nice, doesn't smell bad, and quite large. All in all, a great time.
I think this could be my new weekly thing - well at least until the baby comes!

Bahama Mama
Or non-Bahama-mama really. Today I got up at 4:30 in the morning to drop Jon off at the airport for his weeks long Bahama vacation. Okay so it's not really a vacation, it's work. He's dive mastering a Spring Break class for UMD. But is jet-setting off to the Bahamas with a bunch of college age girls work? I'm classifying it as a vacation!
I met some of the girls a few days ago. They arrived early and stayed with my mom. They are fabulous and fun! I'm actually a little sad that I'm not tagging along. You all know how much I love: roughing it, bugs and the ocean! :)
Anyway, back to the airport - I'm hoping they arrived okay. (They were taking a small puddle jumper from a private charter.) When we got there this morning, the place was completely dark except for one custodian cleaning the office. We were all a bit worried that maybe he was also the pilot, but a while later the receptionist arrived and eventually the pilot as well. I'm sure it was an interesting flight.
So I'm beat and heading to bed early. Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow!

Comment Catch Up
I never know if people sign up to by emailed follow up comments, so I thought I would post these answers to comment questions in the blog. Here goes:
1) "The Glass Castle" really has nothing to do with geology, but since the kids are growing up practically homeless, a rock collection can be of value. This is why it was in my mind during the bizarre dream.
2) Robots can make squishing noises (if you're cutting through their fleshy human exoskeleton)!
3) The term red alert is from one of my favorite movies, "Yours, Mine & Ours" (the original with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda). It's an adorable story about two widowers who marry - the only problem is she has 8 kids and he has 10. Luckily, Henry Fonda's character is a naval officer and uses his military skills to run an orderly ship. (I highly recommend it if you enjoy older movies. Though the remake is cute, the original is much better. This is also true of the original "Out of Towners" with Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis. The remake with Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin was ridiculous. There are the best quotable one liners ever in the original "Out of Towners." My family has stock quotes for almost every situation from that movie, but I digress...)
In one scene, when a young child is sick, Henry Fonda calls out red alert to signal that all the kids have to come back to command central for room reassignments. In my family, red alert was code word for Shannon threw up. I was unfortunately a sickly child and I threw up weekly, if not nightly, for many years it seems. (This is probably why I abhor throwing up so much as an adult... not than anyone enjoys it... except maybe a few bulimics out there.)
So now you know 1) I was a big thrower-upper back in the day and 2) red alert is a great quote to steal in times of pukeness. Doesn't your life just seem so much more enriched for learning this valuable phrase? :)
Since I'm in a rambling nonsensical mood, I have one more story for you. Apparently the universe is trying to tell me something as during our weekly spelling test today, I noticed a child spelled the word "barn": porn. Now I just have to figure out what the universe is trying to tell me....

Afternoon P
Today after school, I wanted pineapple (but we only had a few cut pieces left). So I chased that with a pickle (been craving those... as long as they are the zesty kind). Turned out they weren't zesty, but jalapeno, and they were making my throat tickle and cough so I stopped after one. I really wanted to shift over to pudding, but I resisted and ate a popsicle instead (seemed a better fit to pineapple and pickles).
Could it be that pregnancy has me predominantly preferring perishables with p?
Two other misc school stories:
The other day while grading the kids homework, I cam across an activity where the kids were supposed to write 2 sentences containing the word "see."
One boy wrote:
I see stuf. My dad see porne. Hmmm... I'm guessing he was trying to say something else?? At least, let's hope his dad sees ponies. :)
Today when I picked up the kiddos from lunch, a little girl came up to me and told me she fell. It is VERY LOUD in the cafeteria, so I was doing my best to ask her what happened and if she was hurt.
"Are you okay?"
Nod.
"Did someone push you?"
"No."
"Did you slip?"
"No, I fell."
"Okay, I can't hear you well. Get in line and we'll talk in the classroom."
Two seconds later, I look back and she is vomiting all down the front of her shirt and onto the floor. I run over and ask:
"Did you vomit because you fell?"
"No, I don't FEEL WELL!"
Ooops!!

Rocks, Rodeo & Robots...
... the three Rs. All bizarre dreams should include these for maximum wackiness.
I'm not sure if it is the fault of pregnancy or not, but since it gets blamed for everything else, I am attributing my colorful dreams of late to my pregged-out hormones. I won't attempt a detailed explanation of my dream (it wouldn't make sense anyway), but here's the jist:
- I grew up in a family of geologists (apparently) and we all collected rocks. My one brother had a particularly special rock that he never wanted to part with (foreshadowing here).
- My other brother and his girl friend were a part of the rodeo show. They were also being blackmailed by a Queen (plot thickens) who demanded the special rock as payment (duh, duh, duh, duh).
- The three of us stole my other brother's special rock and went to pay the Queen, only to discover she was really an evil robot (plot twist)!
- The dream turned a little gruesome at this point when my brother's girlfriend began to kill the robot by chopping her into little bits. In my dream I was covering my eyes so I didn't see any of this happening, but listening to my brother give her instructions and hearing the squishing, sawing noises were bad enough.
That was pretty much it; the comedy of it all woke me up sometime after that. I assume it ended well: evil queen vanquished, special rock replaced, future rodeos won - yee haw!
Not sure if anyone knows enough about dream analysis to give me any guidance, but Jon's take on it was - "you watch way too much TV!" I can certainly see the influences: robot (Sarah Connor Chronicles), rodeo (Wildfire), but the rocks came from a book (The Glass Castle), hah!
I also noticed I seem to like big families in my dreams (even though in reality I am an only child) and that I never give my characters any names. Something for me to work on tonight. :)

Punctuality
Punctuality is not a priority of all people - of this I know - but today takes the cake (or doesn't take the cake, you'll understand later)!
My mom and I were invited to her neighbor's one year old son's birthday party. It was being held at an outdoor park and had an adorable barn yard theme. They worked for months handmaking all the decorations, the party favors, the candies, the cake etc. It would have been a truly spectacular affair except for one tiny detail... the time.
The invitation said 11:30. We arrived around 11:45. No one was there except for a few family members setting up tables. We put ourselves to work wrapping candies and putting out party favors. That took us till about 12:15. Another neighbor couple arrived with their baby girl in tow so we chatted about baby paraphenalia (must haves and forget about its). That took us to about 1:00. Still no guests or guest of honor. By 1:30, I had to go. Mom drove me back home and went back solo.
By then other family members and friends had arrived, along with their children, and some ponies for petting and rides. The party finally started hopping and mom stayed for several more hours, but eventually had to leave herself. Thus, neither she nor I lasted long enough to even get a slice of birthday cake!
Come on, people! I'm hoping that 11:30 was a typo and your party was really supposed to start at 1:30, but judging by the cold hot dogs that were served I'm guessing that was not the case.

Too Much
Too much fun, too much work, too much stress and too little sleep - it was a combination of these that caused me to go days without checking my email or blogging this week.
Here's a brief recap of my activities:
Monday - birthday :)
Tuesday - Bunko (won $20 bucks)
Wednesday - night out with Mom and Jan (watched The Game Plan - I *heart* The Rock!)
Thursday - night out with Jon (hadn't seen him since my birthday)
Friday - exhaustion = sitting on couch and early to bed
Saturday - baby expo (three hours of walking, looking, calculating, and generally getting overwhelmed and confused!)
Since I'm still reeling from the stress of it all, I don't have anything much to blog about. So here is something I meant to blog earlier in the week regarding my b-day. So take a trip back in time with me...
Along with all the loot, I also got the cutest cards for my birthday. My favorite was from Jon. It was a Hoops and Yo-yo musical card. For those of you who know me well or have been reading my blog for a time, you know that I wear a signature lotion, Creamy Coconut. No one smells coconut when I wear it though. They smell donuts and cookies. So keeping that in mind, here was my card.
You see the adorable Hoops and Yo-yo on the front along with the words:
"Here's something you're not going to hear from anyone else..."
When you open the card, you read:
"Dang! You smell purty!"
And hear the two of them shouting:
"Oh, you smell good. Oh, so so so good. Like fresh baked cookies. Right out of the oven. Take another whiff. I could just drink you in. You got a good whiff about you!"
It still cracks me up! Thanks Jon for always keeping the laughs coming...

Bunko!
No time for blogging tonight either. It's my turn to host Bunko so I've been slaving away in the kitchen - no seriously! Okay, not slaving, but I did make manicotti and have been sitting around waiting for it to bake. Smells pretty good - even through my plugged up nose.
Anyway, I just wanted to post about all the fabulous gifts I received yesterday!
- cash from the in-laws (I'm thinking about buying maternity clothes with it)
- gift card from Babies R Us from my sister-in-law (yeah!)
- several new beaded watches and earrings from mom (enough to bring my collection up to 32 no less)
- a beautiful new Coach purse from mom (love it!)
and... (drumroll please)
- a new camcorder from Jon (for all those baby videos - and no, filming the birth will not be one of them, on this Jon and I agree!)

Me-Day B-Day!
Happy Birthday to me!
Happy Birthday to me!
I guess it could be worse...
I could be turning 33!
Just kidding. I'm sure I'll love turning 33 next year. I'm not really freaked out about aging (I mean what's the alternative?) and the numerologist in me will love turning 33 (33 on 3-3-09, love those numbers!).
Let's see, how can I get excited about 32? I'm sharing it with the baby so 2 of us are celebrating this year? I don't know, that's pretty weak. I'll think of something.
Per comment request, I have noted the need for a "Red Alert" explanation, but I will have to save the story for another day. No time to stay and chat tonight. I'm on my way to mom's for dinner, dessert and gifts. Sounds like a good celebration to me!

Adventures in Dogsitting
Just clicked over to read my mom's blog and realized I had never blogged about dogsitting Angel. So here is the belated post. I already kind of composed it in my head. No counting sheep when I can't sleep, I write drafts of blogs. You'd think they'd be more entertaining with the extra forethought, but not so much. (I also worked out the format for next years Xmas letter a few sleepless nights ago...) Enjoy:
I've never considered myself to be very maternal. I'm an only child so I didn't help raise any younger siblings. I was the youngest of my cousins for the majority of my life and when my aunts & uncles did continue to have kids, I was grown and heading to college. I'm not even particularly a baby person. I'd rather you hold it and I'll just nibble on their toes. So I'm into baby feet, who isn't?
Luckily, I think pregnancy helps bring about your maternal instincts. Which is why I was able to perform Thursday night's amazing feat. About 1 in the morning, I suddenly awoke to hear that doggie pre-yack, stomach-gurgling, hack-cough. It's very distinctive as I'm sure all you dog owners are aware.
I bolted upright and following the sound reached my hands into the blackness where I perfectly caught Angel's puke between my fingers. No spillage, no need to clean the comforter. A little hand washing later and we were all snuggled back under the covers. Red alert averted!

Preggo Pathetico
It's official. I have a cold. I feel okay except for the uncontrollable runny nose. You know the kind that decides to drip without a moments notice. Fan-f@#*ing-tastic! Just what every already-pathetic pregnant woman wants for her birthday.
It wasn't too inconvenient last night at the hockey game (the MN Wild won by the way) since the temperature in the arena hovered just above frigid and my nostrils were literally frozen together. The VIP club level seats were nice. Since I couldn't recoup my $40 ticket on the free booze, I worked my way through several courses in the appetizer buffet. Many mini quiches and egg rolls were consumed by me and baby. Not the healthiest of meals, but I could tell MBP enjoyed the cheat-treat. :)
Today I've been given the added present of burning, itchy eyes and the occasional death-rattling cough. The people at table #18 are going to love me tonight during Tony n Tina's Wedding. I think I'm in the grumpy phase of my pregnancy 'cuz I hope they all get my sickness. Let them eat cake (with my germs afloat)!
It's already mid-afternoon and I have little to show for my productivity. I have managed to accomplish:
- showering
- finishing the last 20 pages of my book (I realized this book alone was 800 pages so I've really invested more like 2000 pages in a trilogy whose ending pissed me off. The only unexpected benefit is that I cried through the majority of those pages and thus helped to clear the sinuses of their drippy mucus.)
- sorted and begun the laundry
- finished Legend (the ultra-cheesy 1985 fantasy flick lent to me by Venessa) It's definitely of the "it's so bad it's worth watching" genre. Check it out. You'll particularly enjoy the voice distortion techniques they use to make the monsters talk scary.
Well, it's time to change a load of laundry so I will take my grumpiness elsewhere. I think I'll share it with my husband... that's always fun. Don't worry, I plan to strip it off and leave it behind when I don my cocktail attire and dancing shoes for tonight's festivities!
