September was Rylee's 12th birthday. Stay at home birthdays are more fun if you're babysitting a 10 week old puppy! Rylee volunteered to watch Mabel while Jessica and family went on a staycation to the other coast over Labor Day weekend.
How cute are these two sweeties?
We had to head back to FL a few days after Cedar Crest, but first we had to say goodbye to everyone.
Covid has been great for Rylee's crafting and painting. She made this AZ/MN painting for Connie and Grandpa Chip.
My Dad drove us as far as the Wisconsin Dells area...
We had a week to settle in and then we all started out our school year online. We still took some traditional back to school photos. Sorry, the signs were a little last minute so you can't really read them. Lol!

I forgot to share two interesting? (not sure that's exactly the correct word - noteworthy? memorable?) stories from the summer: a dog rescue and a tongue sting.
First up, the dog rescue:
My uncle Howard was staying at the cabin with a dog he was babysitting. You can see Bailey here on the golf cart. He was resort dog so he loved golf cart rides!
My mom planned an outdoor dinner so we were all sitting around visiting and watching the kids play outside. I ran inside to get something and when I came out, I noticed that the dog was eating something in the grass. I walked over and saw that it was mouse poison! He had found a stick in our garage and eaten it (well half of it, before I stopped him from eating the rest).
We checked the label and it was definitely bad news for dogs as well mice. Howard called the poison control number and I called our local vet (of course it was a Saturday night when this all happened because pets and kids only get sick on the weekends). They both gave similar instructions: get the dog to drink hydrogen peroxide and throw up as much of the poison as possible.
Our hydrogen peroxide was expired, as was our neighbors (I ran to check), so Gaga and I zipped uptown to buy some. Then we soaked some bread in hydrogen peroxide so Bailey would eat it - he did, but he still wasn't throwing up. In the end, we shot some down his throat with a turkey baster, which was actually pretty easy because he didn't seem to mind half drinking it. We realized if he liked the taste of mouse poison, he probably didn't have the most discerning palate!
He finally threw (what looked like) everything up (I'll spare you those details!) and we were able to eat a much later than planned dinner. Howard and I did have to take Bailey into the vet on Sunday so he could get on a Vitamin K regimen for a few days. His owners were very cool about the whole almost killing their dog thing - they were apologetic even that he had caused trouble!
We're just so thankful that it turned out to be a funny story. If I hadn't come out of the house at that exact moment, no one would have known that Bailey had eaten the poison, and he would have bleed to death a few days later. Timing IS everything I guess.
The second story is Jace's tongue story.
I do have a picture of Jace's tongue, but I'll just use a picture of Jace instead. :)
At Cedar Crest on Friday, the kids were going out on the paddleboards. Rylee and Meg were on one board while Jace and Max were on another. Max had only paddled a little ways away from the dock when Jace asked to go back in because his tongue hurt. Max dropped him off and the other three went out for their adventure (slightly rolling their eyes since they thought Jace was probably just being dramatic).
Jace found me in the lake and said he thought a bug had bit him on his tongue. I'll admit I was skeptical at first too, but when I got out and looked at it, he had a big lump on his tongue from a bite or a bee sting maybe? Mom and Penney were in Gaga's cabin so I brought him up there for some ice and then got some Bendryl from our cabin. We also got him a slushy from the lodge.
The swelling went down a lot and he seemed fine. Gaga decided Jace needed a little hydrogen peroxide on his tongue to make sure it wouldn't get infected. Whether it was this, the slushy, the Bendryl or likely a combination of all three - of course, he threw up. But after that, he was fine. :)
Hmmm.... both of my interesting stories ended up in puke. I'm not sure what that says about me?!
These photos were from a pontoon ride we took one night at sunset.
They also have this purple tube that is really fun.
And someday we will really embarrass Max with all the photos at his graduation party.
Not that Max will even be embarrassed - that's what I love about Max. :)
