No Rhyme or Reason

When I don't post for a couple of days, I have a hard time sticking to a post topic (so much to say, so little time and all that). So let's play catch up, shall we?

This was the week from h - e - double hockey sticks. I have a student who is utterly out of control and though I used to be able to keep him under wraps, suddenly nothing works. He spent the better part of this week crawling on the floor, sitting under or on top of the tables, and at one point even chewed on the chairs. He may have been raised by wolves... I'm not sure. Throw in back to back doctors appts and an evening dedicated to phone conferences and by Friday I was one crabby mommy2be. I really wanted happy hour, but settled for ice cream.

Actually, Jon and I had a great night last night. Since we're being baby-frugal, we ate dinner at Outback Steakhouse (to which I had a gift certificate) and picked up ice cream at Cold Stone (gift certificate there too). As an aside, I don't quite understand the appeal of Outback. We haven't been there in years, but that place is always packed. The food is good, but the menu is not that huge or varied. Good bread, but you can get that at Cheesecake Factory. Is stealing the steak knives that big of an appeal? I just don't get it...

We finally started discussing baby names. How people not get divorced over this process is beyond me! Okay, it wasn't that bad, we were able to keep our sense of humor, but boy we veto each other's suggestions pretty quickly. We started keeping a list of the names that we both don't hate. That will be a fun conversation with our kid someday.
"Mom, Dad, why did you guys name me ___?"
"Well, that was the only name that we both either didn't despise or have a bad association with. Hope you like it!"
*We can only seem to come up with girl's names. I'm assuming this is another means for the universe to mess with us so we'll likely be having a boy.*

In other news, I may be sleeping on the couch again tonight. Last weekend, our neighbors across the way had a party that went way into the wee hours of morning and one particularly annoying, cackling guest forced me out of my bedroom (with its obviously-non-soundproof-sliding-glass-doors) and onto the leather couch in our formal living room (ironically this is the most attention that couch has gotten since its flick-of-the-wrist-auction-purchase last year...but that's another story). So why am I assuming tonight will be another on-the-coucher? A 20 foot tall bounce house with slide was just erected next door! Mind you, this is their 2nd bounce house within as many months. I do have to say it looks pretty cool. If I wasn't preggers, I'd be over there asking if I could "jump, jump!"

Okay, I think that catches you up and I have stalled long enough before getting to my actual work for the day. Peace out, homies!

Bad Blogger

Not that there is any excuse for being a bad blogger, but this is mine:

Back to back doctors appointments (Tues afternoon and today). They start at 3:30, but I don't end up home until 6:30 or later. I am convinced there is a time warp near Coral Springs, FL - beware. After factoring in dinner, school planning and prep, and my need to be in bed by 9:00, you can see why I need a time machine to turn back the clock.

Here are the "productive" results of these two appointments:

- my high risk doctor was not in and I saw a bumbling buffoon instead
- he made me explain to him my thyroid condition
- then while I was talking, interrupted me to ask if my eyes always looked like this and if I always talked so fast (excuse me if after 2 hours of waiting I was trying to speed things along a bit!)
- apparently he was trying to determine if my "frenetic behavior" was abnormally caused by an imbalance
- after talking with him, I came to the conclusion that they only thing I needed to do was have my doctor monitor my levels more often during the pregnancy
- to which he replied "no" and then launched into some more nonsense rambling
- in the end, his advice was to have my doctor monitor my levels more often during the pregnancy (whaaa? I guess it sounded so much prettier when he suggested it!)
- I also got two more ultrasounds (one regular and one vaginal) which brings my total up to 4 if you're counting and I'm only 10 weeks along
- let's hope we're not supposed to be limiting the baby's exposure to them like an x-ray or something
- today was a complete waste except for finally walking out with my vitamin prescription in hand (4 weeks and 3 appointments later, check!)

Good News:
- with each visit MBP (mini baby P) is growing and its heart rate is strong so I can't complain about that!

Again, sorry for being a bad blogger! And to those of you who's blogs I have linked to my own, I have once again caught up with you, but again had no time to comment. If you would like to stage a protest and refuse to comment on my blog, I will understand. :)

Week 10

I'm a quarter of the way through my pregnancy and I don't have much to show for it (despite my growing baby bulge).
- I haven't started reading pregnancy or parenting books. (Well, I did start to read an A to Z book about what not to do when you're pregnant, but it was so depressing and confusing that I only made it up to the Ps. If there's something horrible I'm doing that starts with the letter "v" - I guess I'm blissfully unaware!)

- I haven't given any serious thought to baby names.

- I haven't picked out fabrics or furniture.

- I haven't decided what I'm going to do about work next year.

There are ideas floating around up there in my brain, but I have become horribly indecisive. Even picking out clothes or deciding what I want to eat proves an arduous task. I'm hoping the second trimester helps clear the cobwebs out of my brain some!

So here's to the one thing I have accomplished - the baby bulge!

Something's Fishy!

I had an interesting experience with my prenatal vitamins this morning. I was popping them out of the trial pack (remember my doctor has been "too busy" to write me an actual prescription) when I suddenly smelled something horrible and fishy. The seal on one of the vitamins had broken and the omega-3 oil (I'm assuming) was oozing out. I almost lost my breakfast right there. Jon had to race in to take the offensive pill from me while I sprinted to the bathroom coughing and gagging at the same time. Some of the oil had gotten on my hands and even after repeated washings, I could still smell the odor.

Even grosser is the fact that just yesterday during one of my excessively burpy phases, I could have sworn that I tasted something fishy in my mouth. I kept wondering why considering I hadn't eaten any fish. Now I know it's the damn vitamins! I have brushed my teeth repeatedly, eaten all kinds of different food flavors, but for some reason I can't quite seem to shake the icky-fishy feel in the back of my throat. I even had a vivid flashback when I walked by a seafood restaurant today and caught a whiff of that fishy smell again. Yuck!

I am not looking forward to taking my vitamins again tomorrow. I fear I will forever associate them with grossness from now on. Dang baby and its need for healthy brain development! :)

Bustin' at the Seams

Though I'm sure it's not entirely the fault of my growing belly, I was still a bit mortified when the button flew off my pants today. Not to mention it was impossible to keep them up for the rest of the day. They are low cut and have a short zipper so after searching to find a safety pin and coming up empty-handed and then trying to fashion a paperclip into a button holder, I resorted to wrapping a sweater around myself and tying it into a tight knot. I still kind of felt like I was waddling around with a load in my pants though (ironically one of my students actually was today).

I guess I better do a little pants shopping this weekend. (That just made me sad. Not too long ago I posted about shopping for a new pair of jeans to replace my faves that set my butt standard. Now I'm thinking about pants that allow for my gut to hang over and not burst.) Guess I'm also going to be giving away the four boxes of chocolates I got from my students...

Happy Valentine's Day!

Working hard or..

...hardly working?

I've been of the hardly working category lately. I've hardly shopped (luv you, Mom!), hardly cleaned (Mom, again), hardly cooked (you-know-who and Jon the super-hubby always look out for me). If it wasn't for teaching, doing the bills and the laundry (which in truth is only half done), you'd think I was on bed rest or something!

Yet... I am so busy that I haven't had time to read anyone's blogs in a week (caught up this afternoon - I missed some great posts and comment opportunities!) or hardly write in mine. Such is life, I guess.

Tonight's shaping up to be busy again. It's my relatives last night in town so we're headed out for a nice dinner and one last visit. By the time I get home, I'll probably crawl right into bed. I've hardly had any time to read lately and I really want to finish my current book prior to starting my book club book - Wicked. I've been wanting to read that for years anyway and Jess already bought me the book for my bday a while back so I'm ready to begin anytime. I just don't enjoy reading two books at the same time for some reason. (I like to stay in character!)

Misc tidbit #1: Rio had her teeth cleaned yesterday which required her to be sedated and spend the day at the vet's office. I haven't seen her so excited to see us in a long time. She must have licked us for 15 minutes after we picked her up (which I assume translates into "don't ever leave me alone there again! Thank god you're my parents!"). Since she was already going to be in there, I asked the vet to microchip her. She never wears a collar and I worry that if she ever got loose, we'd never see her again. Not that anyone could come close enough to her to catch her and scan her, the greased pig, but it would at least give me hope. Come to find out, she's had a microchip since we bought her 5 years ago. Who knew?! Thankfully the vet checked before inserting the second microchip. :)

Misc tidbit #2: Maybe my stomach is so huge because of all this gas? So far pregnancy = non-stop burping and farting. I'm definitely glowing - with embarrassment!
