Pay Attention to Me

Jon and I are both home tonight with no commitments or work to speak of. Thus far, I've been ignoring him to catch up on reading blogs. I better post fast because I feel the "pay attention to me" coming on soon. So here is some more randomness for you all.

- Our local Dairy Queen has a special on Blizzards on Monday (and I think Tuesday) nights. Buy 1 large and get another of any size FREE. This is the way to buy Blizzards! Though I do caution you that consuming a large Blizzard all in one eating may not be advisable (unless you were planning on using it as a mini-colonic opportunity).

- We received a package from our health insurance company today with lots of goodies. My personal fave - Dr. Spock's 8th edition. I was raised entirely off of Dr. Spock's wisdom so I'm interested to see what he has to say.

- I had to call the office for assistance today with a child. Two people came in and hog carried him out by the arms and legs. Interesting!

- Big weekend ahead: Tomorrow we're heading to a hockey game, FL Panther's vs. MN Wild. Saturday I have tickets to Tony-n-Tina's Wedding. I am excited to see what being a wedding crasher feels like! Sunday - relaxation. Monday - my birthday!
I'll try to take time out from my party lifestyle to blog. :)

Misc...

Rushed for time so I will just ramble off a few misc things from the past couple of days:

1) Being pregnant comes in quite handy when teaching. The kids are very willing to be calm and quiet if you say it's for the baby! (They also ask sweetly if they can hug the baby. Or as one girl put it, "I don't want to smoosh the baby, I'll hug you on your side." Aaaah)

2) Stupid, waste of time, high risk doctor appointment = $300 bill to be paid. Not sure I'll be keeping that 20 week checkup...

3) Letter of intent for my employment plans next year due to my school by Friday. Crap! What are my intentions??? Is independently wealthy lottery winner an option?

4) Over 1000 pages invested in a trilogy of novels and the ending makes me cringe. Technically I haven't read the last 20 pages. I was so cranky, I stopped, briefly thumbed through the pages making sure this wasn't a false ending, and haven't picked up the book since. Once I have calmed myself, I will go back, finish it, and make peace with the author's decision.

5) Jon's home. Gotta run!

Outed!

I "outed" myself to my kids about my pregnancy today. It was the second time a particularly observant girl asked, "are you pregnant, Mrs. P?" and I decided to just come clean. They were soooo excited.

- They wanted to know if it is a boy or a girl. I said it was too early to know.
- They wanted to know about names. I said we didn't have one yet and one little boy said he liked Ralphie. What do you think?
- They wanted to know if they could buy me a shower gift. I said it was too early again. They thought I didn't know what baby showers were so one girl tried to enlighten me. She said, "baby showers are when people come and buy the baby all kinds of gifts even though the baby isn't there." Pretty good explanation. :)
- They wanted to know if they could bring me their old baby clothes.
- They wanted to know if I was going to have a doctor take it out. I thought that sounded like a pretty good idea to me.

And best of all, they were on their extra sweetest, quietest behavior. We'll see how long that lasts!

Me & My Dad

I'm not saying that my dad is better than your dad, but since today is his birthday I thought I would list a few of the reasons that make him the best dad in the world to me!

1) Pony rides
I never minded going to bed when I was little - it was an adventure! A big part of that was my dad. He would get down on all fours and become a pony fit for a princess to ride. Then I would climb on his back and ride my pony to bed. He would poke his head into each room to check if this was our destination, making me giggle when he would hit his head on the doors. I'm sure this did not help his bad back any, but it is a ritual I will always cherish and remember.

2) Saturday Morning Cartoons
What kid doesn't love getting up to watch Saturday Morning Cartoons? (In case you haven't noticed, I have a deep-rooted obsession with Scooby Doo to prove it!) My dad made Saturday mornings even better by picking up my favorite treat at the bakery - fried cinnamon rolls, yum-o! You had to get there very early otherwise they would be all sold out so I know my dad wasn't catching up on extra sleep those mornings. :)

3) The Olympics
I said I never minded going to bed, well this wasn't always true. There was one thing that made me sneak out of my room and crawl on my belly down the hallway to glimpse the TV in the living room: the Olympics. Summer or winter, it didn't matter; my dad and I loved all the events. He was bound to be up watching them and that meant I "could" too. It's a passion we still share today - we'll cry over the athletes' struggles and cheer for their triumphs. There is no one I'd rather watch the Olympics with than my dad.

4) Music
I love to listen to music. (I wish I could have a soundtrack to my life playing wherever I go just like in the movies.) I have so many memories of my dad cranking up the volume on a song he loved and dancing with me in the kitchen. "Celebration" by Kool-n-the-Gang became our unofficial song. If we're at a wedding or street dance and that song comes on, I don't care what we're doing or who we're talking to: we stop, find each other, and hit the dance floor! I even called my dad on my cell one Friday afternoon in Houston when that song came on during my commute home. We had to celebrate the end of the work week together!

5) Good Vibes
My dad is a firm believer in the power of positive thinking and to help he's always sent me "good vibes" whenever he thought I needed it. Taking a test in school? He wanted to know when so he could stop and send me good vibes during the test. Interviewing for a job? You guessed it - good vibes were coming my way. Thanks for letting the good vibes roll, Dad!

This list could go on and on, but I have to save something to write about for Father's Day! Happy Birthday Dad, I love you! Thanks for being the best dad in the world! Love, Me

Here are some wishes from the rest of the family:
Happy Birthday to "Big John" from "Little Jon"
Happy Birthday Grandpa! I can't wait to meet you! Love, MBP
Happy Birthday... don't forget about me now that the baby is arriving. I've been a good granddoggie, haven't I? Love, Rio

No Rhyme or Reason

When I don't post for a couple of days, I have a hard time sticking to a post topic (so much to say, so little time and all that). So let's play catch up, shall we?

This was the week from h - e - double hockey sticks. I have a student who is utterly out of control and though I used to be able to keep him under wraps, suddenly nothing works. He spent the better part of this week crawling on the floor, sitting under or on top of the tables, and at one point even chewed on the chairs. He may have been raised by wolves... I'm not sure. Throw in back to back doctors appts and an evening dedicated to phone conferences and by Friday I was one crabby mommy2be. I really wanted happy hour, but settled for ice cream.

Actually, Jon and I had a great night last night. Since we're being baby-frugal, we ate dinner at Outback Steakhouse (to which I had a gift certificate) and picked up ice cream at Cold Stone (gift certificate there too). As an aside, I don't quite understand the appeal of Outback. We haven't been there in years, but that place is always packed. The food is good, but the menu is not that huge or varied. Good bread, but you can get that at Cheesecake Factory. Is stealing the steak knives that big of an appeal? I just don't get it...

We finally started discussing baby names. How people not get divorced over this process is beyond me! Okay, it wasn't that bad, we were able to keep our sense of humor, but boy we veto each other's suggestions pretty quickly. We started keeping a list of the names that we both don't hate. That will be a fun conversation with our kid someday.
"Mom, Dad, why did you guys name me ___?"
"Well, that was the only name that we both either didn't despise or have a bad association with. Hope you like it!"
*We can only seem to come up with girl's names. I'm assuming this is another means for the universe to mess with us so we'll likely be having a boy.*

In other news, I may be sleeping on the couch again tonight. Last weekend, our neighbors across the way had a party that went way into the wee hours of morning and one particularly annoying, cackling guest forced me out of my bedroom (with its obviously-non-soundproof-sliding-glass-doors) and onto the leather couch in our formal living room (ironically this is the most attention that couch has gotten since its flick-of-the-wrist-auction-purchase last year...but that's another story). So why am I assuming tonight will be another on-the-coucher? A 20 foot tall bounce house with slide was just erected next door! Mind you, this is their 2nd bounce house within as many months. I do have to say it looks pretty cool. If I wasn't preggers, I'd be over there asking if I could "jump, jump!"

Okay, I think that catches you up and I have stalled long enough before getting to my actual work for the day. Peace out, homies!

Bad Blogger

Not that there is any excuse for being a bad blogger, but this is mine:

Back to back doctors appointments (Tues afternoon and today). They start at 3:30, but I don't end up home until 6:30 or later. I am convinced there is a time warp near Coral Springs, FL - beware. After factoring in dinner, school planning and prep, and my need to be in bed by 9:00, you can see why I need a time machine to turn back the clock.

Here are the "productive" results of these two appointments:

- my high risk doctor was not in and I saw a bumbling buffoon instead
- he made me explain to him my thyroid condition
- then while I was talking, interrupted me to ask if my eyes always looked like this and if I always talked so fast (excuse me if after 2 hours of waiting I was trying to speed things along a bit!)
- apparently he was trying to determine if my "frenetic behavior" was abnormally caused by an imbalance
- after talking with him, I came to the conclusion that they only thing I needed to do was have my doctor monitor my levels more often during the pregnancy
- to which he replied "no" and then launched into some more nonsense rambling
- in the end, his advice was to have my doctor monitor my levels more often during the pregnancy (whaaa? I guess it sounded so much prettier when he suggested it!)
- I also got two more ultrasounds (one regular and one vaginal) which brings my total up to 4 if you're counting and I'm only 10 weeks along
- let's hope we're not supposed to be limiting the baby's exposure to them like an x-ray or something
- today was a complete waste except for finally walking out with my vitamin prescription in hand (4 weeks and 3 appointments later, check!)

Good News:
- with each visit MBP (mini baby P) is growing and its heart rate is strong so I can't complain about that!

Again, sorry for being a bad blogger! And to those of you who's blogs I have linked to my own, I have once again caught up with you, but again had no time to comment. If you would like to stage a protest and refuse to comment on my blog, I will understand. :)
