Confidence

So my ob/gyn's office isn't exactly inspiring our confidence right now. Here's just a brief run down of their antics the past couple of weeks:

- The day of my first ultrasound, they had me fill out all this new paperwork (even though I've been a patient on file for over two years). Then proceeded to get me confused with another new patient. They returned my id and insurance cards to her, asked me if I wanted the cervical cancer vaccine, and almost lost my urine sample. As Jon uttered under his breath, "they're so confused, they're going to tell her she's pregnant and you that you have a STD." (Add to this the fact that we arrived an hour early since they gave me the wrong appointment time and we had to wait over 2 hours to get in...)

- Then we finally get back to the ultrasound machine room. Let me set the picture. The room is the size of a postage stamp. There's the table, the huge machine, the counter, and two chairs crammed in there. Once you added me, Jon, and the doctor, it was like a clown clinic comedy. Every time the doctor wanted to do something, she and Jon had to stand up and switch places for better viewing. Forgive my TMI, but with my legs in the stirrups during the ultrasound one knee was actually resting on Jon and the other on the doctor - that's how cramped we were!

- Fast forward a few days to when they call and ask me to verify my insurance information because they have two sets and are confused. Shocker!

- Fast forward a week to when they call to tell me that they've set up my appointment with the high risk doctor. They've picked the date and time, but have left me the number to call and get it rescheduled. When I call to do so, that office has no idea who am, says I'm not a patient on file, and have no record for an appointment for me on the day or time provided. If I'd have gotten a sub and taken off work for that... well let's just say the words "happy camper" would not have been used to describe my presence! The high risk doctor's office says they will look into it and that I will be getting a call to confirm my appointment. Still waiting for that call by the way...

- Which bring us to yesterday. I arrive at 3:30 for my ultrasound (with Jon due to arrive around 4:00 knowing the long wait we'll be facing). Guess what? I'm in and done with the ultrasound by 3:33 and I'm not exaggerating. I call Jon to tell him not to bother coming, but he is already on his way and since I have to meet with the doctor anyway, he decides to come. The lady gives me file (and my urine sample) and asks me to head down to the third floor for my appointment. After waiting in line at the desk, they rudely tell me that I am not seeing the doctor today. I try to call Jon to stop him, but now his cell service is funked up and he doesn't get my call.

- Almost forgot! The day of the first ultrasound, they were too busy to write me my prescription for prenatal vitamins, so they just gave me a stack of samples. Now those are almost gone so I ask for my prescription today. No, just another stack of samples. Whatever!

- Then I ask what's going on with my high risk doctor appointment and they assure me it is scheduled for the day and time they gave me before. When I call to reschedule, that office is already closed for the day. I left a message saying that I'm not coming, but will probably be charged some ridiculous not-enough-notice cancellation fee (even though technically I called four days ago to cancel/reschedule but at that time they didn't know I existed)!

- Dear Lord, please don't let these people have anything to do with my baby once it's born, otherwise I will always fear that it was switched at birth.

*Unrelated, but why can't I get Blogger's spellcheck to work anymore?*

I hear you Shannon but a word of advice, the true ultrasound tech on the 4th floor is awesome. She is the only one ever on time. All other appointments are a fricken crap shoot. I will definitely not go back for baby #2 but since I am half way through brewing #1, I don't want to hassle with a switch.

Wow, you are scareing me! These people are supposed to be medical professionals! Have you thought about getting a new doctor??? One that has competent office staff? Have you thought about printing all this out and giving it to your current doctor so they get a clue how incompetent their staff is?

(I noticed the same problemwith spell check and though it was just me - maybe it is a pop-up blocker issue?)

Spellcheck has been down for about 2 weeks. Don't know why.

Switch doctors. After hearing about yours and Erin's experiences there, I know I certainly wouldn't go.

BTW, I have a spare nephew to unload for the weekend. Interested in getting some real life practice? :)

Your experience with doctors as well as Erins battles and my own have led me to the conclusion that there are no competent doctors in the state of Florida and we should all start a commuter jet fund to pay for our out-of-state doctor visits.

*hugs!* I just checked in and read this! I can see why you would be annoyed - are they any more together in the am, and would it be possible to switch something in order to get morning appointments? I know that when I had C, my experience in the afternoon with my clinic at that time was *totally* different from my friend's experience, who got them fresh and not behind yet, in the morning! You'll be fine, and you'll figure this out. ^_^
