Miss Blogging

I've been so busy I haven't had any free time for blogging - and I miss it! I have funny stories to tell from my Mom's birthday celebration #1, photos of Miss Rylee to post, and more. No time to catch up tonight though. Mom's birthday celebration #2 will be under way shortly.

In case you're wondering why I didn't blog anything special for my Mom's birthday yesterday, it was because I put together a special book with photos and memories of her throughout the years from her family and friends. It turned out really nice, But at 38 MB - it is too big and long to post here. Maybe she'll show it to you someday instead. :)

Well, I'm missing my Rylee time so I have to go. I hope to get back on "blog track" this weekend (depending on the amount of grading I have) or next week at the latest! In the meantime, have a great week!

Busy Sunday

Our Sunday did not go as planned around here. Jon and I were both busy all day. I did get to read blogs tonight so at least I'm caught up going into the week.

Sadly I'm too pooped to tell you about our crazy shopping day yesterday. It was completely fun and at times hilarious (in a bizarre uneventful way). Maybe another day...

Checking In

Hi all. Sorry no blogging this week. Between lesson planning and grading, I've been working way more than I'd like. One more week of that and then I'm back to a more regular schedule. (Yep, two weeks of working 7 am - 9 pm is enough for me right now.) Good news is: I am all caught up as of last night so no work for me this weekend - yeah!

Just in time too. Today is day one of my Mom's two day 60th birthday celebration (her bday is the 27th). They won't be back to back so we're not totally in keeping with her teenage "lie" (you all know the story by now I'm sure), but we always do what we can to make it the "truth."

Day one is an all day shopping excursion so I'm guessing I won't have time to catch up on blogs today either. I know I'm missing out on really hilarious stuff from all of you. Don't worry I'm setting aside some catch up time on Sunday (I always go back and read from where I left off!).

In Rylee news, she can "officially" hold her own bottle now. She used to drop it or struggle when it got down to the end, but she really mastered it earlier this week (which is why I have time to type right now - feed yourself child!). She also learned to gargle the milk in her mouth. She thinks that's pretty entertaining. And she's added a new sound effect to the mix: a growly monster sound. I'll try to capture it on video some day!

Lastly, a couple quick observations about 5th graders:
They are much the same as Kindergartners. They have the same disputes (sharing for instance) and they handle them in much the same way (kicking each other!). The only difference is that they come in much larger and noisier packages... and giggle every time you say the word "sectionalism".

Behind

I'm behind on blogging and Jon is bugging me to post about some of Rylee's firsts yesterday:

First word: Dada - I dispute this one a little bit. She says Mama too, but she does prefer Dada. To me it doesn't really feel like a word yet since she says it more as a sound. Now when she actually uses it to call one of us...

First sit up: she was lying on her stomach, kind of pushed into the crawl position, then into a side sitting position and then up. I almost captured the whole thing on video, but of course I missed the last part (which was the most important!). Argh!

First tooth: Again, I'm calling it a tooth tip. You can feel it along her lower gum if you run your finger across it, but you can't see it. I need to "see a tooth" before I'll really call it a first (but then I'm picky).

Still pretty exciting though. Yeah Rylee!

Fun in the Sun

Yesterday a friend of ours had a birthday party at the park so Rylee had her first real outdoor afternoon. She did great!

She played on a towel in the grass with her friend Miller.

Drank a bottle and ate "snacks". I took her for a quick walk in her stroller so she could fall asleep and then parked her in the shade for a nap. (Note the blankie in her mouth - it was like that the whole time she was asleep!)

We stayed for about four hours (which was great - I always enjoy when the outing is actually longer than the prep time and packing for the outing!). Don't worry, she was in the shade the whole time (our friends brought their easy up) and I put baby sunscreen on her twice just in case. :)

Today she may have had her first crawl. I say may because I never know quite when to call something a first. She did two army crawls today (previously she would only do the push up stance or kind of crawl with her face), but I'll probably have to see if she does it again before I decide if this was the real deal.

Not sure if Grandma (who will be in full daycare mode starting tomorrow) will be too thrilled to know that we are going to be into crawling so soon! :)

Life of Leisure

My life of leisure will be coming to an end at least for the next 4 - 5 weeks. School called yesterday and needs me to sub in 5th grade for two weeks (yikes!) and then work in the Media Center for a couple more after that. They've made so many cuts that we've lost the media clerk who would have been working with me in the library next fall so I have to go in and learn her job quickly.

I'm still a go for subbing in the library next fall (at this point), but I'm starting to get nervous. As all these other teachers and aides are displaced, I don't want to get pushed out.

Times like these are when I so wish I was independently wealthy! :)
